Fountain Hills Town Council votes to postpone district rezoning

Dispute over density

The Fountain Hills Town Council held a lengthy discussion on adopting the downtown overlay district during its last regular meeting of 2025 on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The proposal to remove existing zone overlays in the business district and extend zoning overlays into the area north of Palisades Boulevard was voted 5-2 to postpone any action and continue conversation until after the council retreat in 2026.

Councilmembers Brenda Kalivianakis and Peggy McMahon were the dissenting votes.
