Fountain Hills’ town logo dispute amidst election is ridiculous

OPINION — The cease-and-desist letter to Brenda Kalivianakis' campaign for her campaign logo is ridiculous.

It is hard for me to imagine that anyone in their right mind could mistake her campaign logo with one of the town's logos or believe that the logo shows town endorsement of her campaign. Any citizen who thinks such should be watched carefully, since common knowledge of any graduate of a high school civics course knows (or should know) that government bodies are not allowed to endorse candidate for election to any office.

The famous fountain is the symbol of Fountain Hills and everyone should expect to see some rendition of it in most advertising that references anything Fountain Hills-related. Is the town now going to sue The Club in Fountain Hills or the Fountain Hills Sanitary District for their use of the fountain in their logos? Or how about the Fountain Hills Life (website/blog and magazine)? The Town does not even consistently use one logo, but uses several depending on the department.
