After reading the article in the 11-13-2013 edition of The Fountain Hills Times, “Improvements coming to Fountain Park,” I had to finally express an opinion about these “improvements.”
The town is talking about spending $1.5 million to install some new lighting, signage and repairing a small parking lot. I am no millionaire, but that sounds like a ton of money on some “OK” things that the park could use, but my question is, That’s it?
I think our park and the Fountain are our biggest assets in attracting people local and nationally. Would it not be wise to update and add on to the park’s playground and “curb appeal?”

The Rotary clubs gave us an amazing gift with the Splash Pad. The Noon Kiwanis Club paid for an adjoining ramada. This attracts people to the park, even residents from surrounding communities.
Out of the $1.5 million, there is not $40,000 to $50,000 that could be used to put in some swing sets and update the park so kids older than seven might enjoy it?
Taking simple steps like this would encourage people to come to the park and actually stay at the park. The more people who come to the park will eventually attract businesses suitable for what our town really needs, which is business that should benefit from our town beauty and the Fountain.
I have personally seen and heard many people come to see the Fountain and then get back in their cars and leave as soon the Fountain goes off.
I have tons more ideas on making the park even better than it is, but I only get so much space. To quote one the best movies ever, “Fountain of Dreams,” oh wait, sorry, “Field of Dreams”: “If you build it, they will come!”
