Fountain Park improvements moving forward

One of the more low-key construction projects going on in town right now is the $700,000 in improvements at Fountain Park.

Nickel Contracting is doing the work on Phase 6, which is the final phase of improvements outlined in the 1999 park master plan.

The scope of work includes reconstruction of the parking lot on the east side of the park off Panorama Drive.

The area where progress is most notable at this time is the work to install low-level lighting bollards to be installed along the park’s inner walkway.

The plan also includes three new monument signs to identify the park at major intersections.

Community Services Director Mark Mayer told the Community Services Advisory Council recently that those monument signs needed to be slightly relocated from their original positioning, which is causing delays in the work.

The original placement interfered with Sanitary District facilities in the park.

Additionally there will be improvements and upgrades made to electrical equipment around the amphitheater.

The contract includes a $688,280 base bid along with the addition of two alternate improvements, including expansion of a handicap ramp near the splash pad to better allow access into the park for larger equipment such as trucks.

The second alternate is to provide an electrical connection to the planned Legacy Plaza.

Accounting for the delays related to redesign of the monument signs, the work should be complete by the end of July, according to Mayer.
