Fountain Park overseed set for October

Winter grass keeps park green

October is overseeding time at Fountain Park and that requires important changes to the irrigation scheduling for about a month, according to Town of Fountain Hills Parks Department.

The shorter days and cooler temperatures of the fall and winter months cause Bermuda grass to go dormant. By overseeding with ryegrass, the grass stays green in Fountain Park all winter long.

What is overseeding? Here in the Southwest, there are two types of grass used to maintain green year-round. During the hot summers a warm season turf called hybrid Bermuda grass is grown. During the cool winters ryegrass is grown. Ryegrass is commonly found in established lawns in the north half of the country.
