Summer solstice event uplifts adults with Alzheimer’s, caregivers

Fountain View Village (FVV) will  offer free respite care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s on the longest day of the year.

Fountain View Village Senior Living Community supports local caregivers Thursday, June 20, known as summer solstice, the day with the most light symbolizing the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers, a press release read.

The community is invited to join FVV June 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a unique event offering three hours of respite care in its Memory Care neighborhood.

As the number of individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s continues to rise, so does the number of caregivers providing essential support to loved ones. Arizona is projected to experience a 33% increase in the number of adults over 65 with Alzheimer’s.

During this event, caregivers will have the opportunity to take a break and recharge while knowing that their loved ones are receiving compassionate care in a safe and nurturing environment. Fountain View Village will offer three hours of respite care at no cost to caregivers.

The Longest Day for Alzheimer’s

The Longest Day for Alzheimer’s is an annual day of fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association that takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.

It is a global call to action to join together and end Alzheimer’s.

It takes place on the summer solstice and is a symbolic gesture designed to clear the darkness of Alzheimer’s on the brightest day of the year.

According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Arizona has the highest average number of hours per unpaid dementia caregiver.

There are 257,000 Arizonans caring for a friend or family member with dementia, with caregivers in Arizona providing a staggering 501 million  hours of unpaid care per year.

Fountain View Village is a senior living community offering a continuum of care services including independent living, assisted living and memory care.

Fountain View Village is located at 16455 Avenue of the Fountains.

Participants must call to pre-register at 480-836-5000.
