The Fountain View Village Patriots were visited by 103-year-old WWII veteran Gene Metcalfe at their recent meeting.
Metcalfe spoke to the club on Sept. 1 at 16455 E. Avenue of the Fountains about his experience as a paratrooper and a prisoner of war during the conflict, according to a press release from FVV program coordinator Bruce Frobes.
Born in San Bernardino, California, Metcalfe has lived in Fountain Hills for the past 36 years. His book, Left for Dead at Nijmegen, details his account of his time during WWII.
