The ceremony honors four chaplains who heroically gave their lives to save soldiers during the sinking of the U.S.A.T. Dorchester, a troop transport, after it was struck by a torpedo from a German U-boat.
Thousands of Four Chaplains ceremonies are held annually by american Legion Posts throughout the United States. The Saga of the Four Chaplains is a very heartfelt story of four military chaplains who gave their lives to save others.
The churches of the Fountain Hills Interfaith Alliance and American Legion Post 58 would like to invite the community to join in honoring the memory of the Four Chaplains. The ceremony will last approximately 40 minutes and is very informative to young and old alike.
More information concerning the Saga of the Four Chaplains can be found online at fourchaplains.org. There is also information about the Chapel of Four Chaplains National Student Scholarship Competition, which is available for students from fifth to 12th grade.
