Four-way stop

Now that we are back to locals only in town, can we please remember the rules about the four-way stop sign?

1. If you come to a stop sign and somebody is there, they go first; it’s their turn.

2. If you are at a stop sign and somebody comes up, you go first; it’s your turn, so don’t sit there waiting for them to go.

3. If you and somebody else arrive at the stop sign at approximately the same time, the person on the right has the right-of-way. Look for a car to your right; if somebody is there, they go first.

4. And this is very important. If the person on the other side of the street going in the complete opposite direction of you has the right to go, that does not give you the right to go. Wait your turn.

I have seen more accidents and near misses because some people either do not know these rules or simply do not care.

And while I am on my soap box – we have many walkers; please make sure that your car does not enter the intersection while there is a person in the crosswalk. Those who are not in cars always get to go first.
