Fourth of July Fountain, Ft. McDowell plans outlined

Take the family to Fountain Park on Monday, July 4, for a community gathering from 6 to 10 p.m. to celebrate the nation’s birthday.

And, the best aspect of all is that the event is free and family-friendly. That means no beer or alcoholic beverages will be sold.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnics to relax and enjoy an evening of fun and games.

If you won’t want to bring a picnic, vendors will sell a variety of food, refreshing cold beverages and sweet treats.

A disc jockey will play music for dancing, followed by games and prizes. The evening will end around 9 p.m. with fireworks.

Guests are welcome to bring frisbees, balls, and other recreational lawn games. No personal fireworks or sparklers will be allowed.

No alcoholic or glass containers will be allowed in. Pets also should be kept home.

Volunteers needed

Town volunteer coordinator Heather Ware is recruiting volunteers to assist with the event.

Volunteer positions are individuals to pass out surveys and glow-in-the-dark necklaces from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and perimeter watch people from 5 to 7 and again 7 to 8:45 p.m. to guard secured area where fireworks will be imploded.

Extra hands also are needed in the children’s activities area to provide supervision from 6 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:15 to 8:45 p.m.

After the fireworks, a clean-up crew will collect discarded water bottles and trash.

Fort McDowell Casino

Country pop artist John Michael Montgomery will perform at 8 p.m., Monday, July 4.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the outdoor concert. Fireworks are scheduled after the show. Ticket prices start at $15 in the casino gift shop or Ticketmaster.com.

He released his studio debut “Life’s a Dance” in 1992 to commercial success, producing three charting singles with one of them “I Love the Way You Love Me” selected as the single of the year by the Academy of Country Music

His other chart-topping songs are “I Swear,” “Be My Baby Tonight,” “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident),” the tribute to veterans and the members of the armed forces, “Letters From Home.”

We-Ko-Pa Resort and Conference Center has two-night accommodations specials featuring inflatable games for guests, dive-in movie, lunar bingo and a game truck.
