Posted
Activities are resuming Saturday, Sept. 23, at The River of Time Museum.
Admission will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 13th annual Museum Day Live.
Participating museums nationally emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities – which offer free admission every day – by offering free admission to those who download a Museum Day Live ticket.
Docents will be on hand for free museum tours. Living history characters will share their story of life in early Lower Verde River Valley. Interactive exhibits will be located throughout the museum. Children’s story time will occur at 11 a.m. in the “Clinton Pattea Gallery.”
Ticket downloads are available at Smithsonian.com/museumday.
The ticket allows free entrance for two on that day. One ticket per email address is permitted.
More than 200,000 people downloaded tickets last year and more are expected this year.
Creative writing
Interested in scrapbooking, writing or ancestry?
Here’s an opportunity to incorporate all three in a creative writing workshop sponsored by the River of Time Museum: “Creating Your Ancestor’s Everyday Life World.”
In this workshop, instructor Cynthia Kiefer will provide exercises and investigative resources to help in researching and writing a life world around an ancestor.
Learn to combine the facts of their lives with rich, real-world details to make the ancestor come alive in the imaginations of readers.
The historical and social contexts must be well researched and accurate.
The two-hour workshop will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the museum’s Clinton Pattea Gallery.
The fee is $35 for non-members and $30 for members. Seating is limited.
Paid reservations are necessary to ensure participation in the class. Payment may be completed online or at the Museum store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
For more information, visit rotmuseum.org or call 480-837-2612.
Holiday mart
The museum is collecting merchandise for the annual Holiday Mart that will open Saturday, Nov. 7, in the museum/library lobby.
Donations can be left at the museum during its regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and until 4 p.m. beginning in October.
Pick-ups also can be arranged by calling 837-2612.
