OPINION — I walked out of the Fountain Hills mayoral forum, a back and forth between incumbent Mayor Gerry Friedel and wannabe mayor, Councilmember Brenda Kalivianakis, with my head spinning as to why Brenda had any rational reason to be in this race.
Clearly Mayor Friedel, who has served successfully on the Town Council and held the office of mayor, didn't need any challenge from this member who reminded the audience dozens of times, that many years ago Kalivianakis had attained a law degree.
Mayor Friedel, on the other hand, spoke of the accomplishments in Fountain Hills under his leadership – paving roads, development, growth, projects to come – and reminded homeowners that Fountain Hills still has no primary property tax, unlike surrounding communities.
