What is so scary about an anti-discrimination policy that ensures that all members of society are treated justly and with respect?

One would think that the Town Council would embrace every opportunity to make it clear that all Fountain Hills residents are entitled to the same protections and opportunities and that any actions to the contrary are unacceptable.

And yet, the Town Council chose to sidestep the issue of an anti-discrimination policy aimed at underscoring the rights of members of the LGBT community. In the past people of color, women and religious minorities have all been discriminated against in the name of religion or societal mores.

What is so scary about an anti-discrimination policy that ensures that all members of society are treated justly and with respect?

One would think that the Town Council would embrace every opportunity to make it clear that all Fountain Hills residents are entitled to the same protections and opportunities and that any actions to the contrary are unacceptable.

And yet, the Town Council chose to sidestep the issue of an anti-discrimination policy aimed at underscoring the rights of members of the LGBT community. In the past people of color, women and religious minorities have all been discriminated against in the name of religion or societal mores.

Have we learned nothing?

As citizens of a democracy, not a theocracy, everyone is entitled to equal protection under the law whether we agree with them or not. We should all champion any action that underscores this fundamental principal and be ever so grateful that it exists.
