Naysayers with no solution to town funding believe voting no will solve the $5.75 million secondary property tax shortfall caused by the dissolution of the Road and Fire Districts; plus the $4.5 million Fire District State Funding loss over the past 15 years.
This property tax shortfall has caused our sales tax to be the highest in our area and desperate offerings like the environmental fee and lagoon proposal failing to fill the gap. Some “no” residents won’t even recognize these shortfalls while complaining that the town government wastes funds that don’t exist. Our town reserves shrunk from $18 million to $2 million; should we wait for $0 so we can beg for junk bonds to fund Fountain Hills at prohibitive interest rates? Why not waste money on interest rather than invest in ourselves?
Sometimes good people make bad choices; we should have never dissolved the Road and Fire Districts. We now have the ballot; it’s time to pay up.
