Organizers working toward the construction of a Community Garden are gearing up for a Garden Class Series that is free to the public and hosted out of the library.
The purpose of this series is to spread knowledge and awareness on garden-related topics and the first session will be held Saturday, May 21, beginning at 1 p.m. in the library conference room.
This first class will be taught by Elizabeth Segal, a master gardener since 2008. Segal’s area of interest is in how to grow edible plants and she plans to speak about the best seasons for planting which crops, tips for making choices to enhance your harvest and a review of two variations on planting calendars.

The topic of her presentation is “When is the best time to plant vegetables in the low desert?”
Fundraising
As work continues on preparing for the community garden, fundraising efforts have also begun.
Local Girl Scouts are getting the ball rolling on an upcoming event, as they have volunteered to serve residents at The Hills Pizza during a spaghetti dinner held in honor of the garden.
This event will also be on May 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. The owner has offered to donate $2 per dinner to the Community Garden project.
The local Scouts will be working hard throughout the night, so everyone is invited out to help them complete their service project.
