Geri entered her heavenly home on June 23, 2017 to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her beloved husband, Dale, and their precious son, Greg Jay.
Geri was born in Visalia, Calif. She grew up in West Point, Neb. In 1946, after a whirlwind courtship, she married Dale Broekemeier, a handsome WWII navigator/bombardier who was home on leave. They had a 71-year-long romance, until he passed in December of 2016.
Her marriage took her to Kansas where she attended Kansas University, majoring in nutrition. Later they moved to Lincoln, Neb. and Sioux City Iowa, before retiring in Fountain Hills.
Geri was a gracious entertainer and generously shared her recipes. She was an avid tennis player and bridge player. She volunteered in and was president of several organizations, including PEO, St Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary (Sioux City), SAE Mother’s Club at the University of Nebraska, and the Heritage Club. She was a long time member of Shepard of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills.
Geri graced her family’s lives with her spirit of love and generosity. She was a mom who was always there for her family. She had a special bond with her sister, Shirley. She was a loyal friend to many. She will be missed.
Geri is survived by her son, Terry Broekemeier, and his wife, Selma, of Chandler and her son, Brent Broekemeier, and his wife, Cindy, of Castle Pines, Colo. Surviving grandchildren are grandson, Matt Broekemeier of Tempe, granddaughter, Colby Broekemeier, and grandson, Taylor Broekemeier both of Castle Pines Colo. Geri is also survived by her sister, Shirley Loisel of Youngtown, Ariz. and many nieces and nephews. Services and burial will be held in Lincoln, Neb.
