Geraldine Marie Nedde Hull

Posted

Gerry was one of the saints of the Earth. She loved and cared for all, both two-footed and four-footed. She was kind, gentle and unfailingly considerate. She was the ultimate nurse, caregiver, friend and sister.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., to Eleanor M. and William H. Nedde. She moved to Monaca, Penn., when her father was transferred by Westinghouse Electric from Pittsburgh to Beaver, Penn. She graduated from Hopewell High School, Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Pittsburgh. She worked at Sewickley Valley Hospital and LaJolla Scripps Hospital before her 30-year career at the Butler (Penn.) Veterans Administration Hospital, from which she retired in 1992.

In addition to her career in nursing, Gerry also volunteered with the Butler County Humane Society and the Butler County Mental Health Association. She was active in her Presbyterian Church and served several terms as a Deacon.

She lived in Butler from 1964 until 2008 when she moved to Fountain Hills, Ariz., to be close to her sister, Chris Young, and her family. She battled breast cancer for many years before succumbing to the disease.

She is survived by her younger sister Christine Nedde Young of Fountain Hills, and her younger brother Norman R Nedde, M.D. of Fort Mill, S.C. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Emily Young and Jen Young, both of Fountain Hills. Two of her brothers, Nelson Nedde and William Nedde, Jr., preceded her in death.

Interment will be in the Butler County Memorial Park Mausoleum, Butler, Penn.

A Memorial Service will be held at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 13, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to any of the following animal rescue shelters: Fearless Kitty Rescue of Fountain Hills, 16913 E. Enterprise Drive, Suite 3, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268, the Arizona Humane Society, 1521 W. Dobbins Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85041, or the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Rd., Renfrew, PA 16053. Gerry was an animal lover and rescuer all of her life. Please continue her wonderful tradition of love and caring.
