Last Thursday night, March 20, 2014, at the Town Council meeting, I witnessed something that appears to be an ongoing personal attack by three councilpersons against Mayor Linda Kavanagh. The agenda item was a discussion about the extending the operating hours of the recently opened marijuana dispensary.
The owner was questioned about it and many people spoke in a call to the public, more against the extension than for. The owner, to me, was not being factual in his speech saying why he needed extended hours and all the council members gave their reasons for or against the extension. Then the mayor gave her numerous reasons for opposing the extension, stating mainly that it was a public safety issue for her. Mayor Kavanagh also refuted many claims made by the dispensary with facts she got from state reports.

The Three Amigos, Councilpersons Henry Leger, Tait Elkie and Ginny Dickey, came back attacking Mayor Kavanagh in what I saw as a personal attempt to embarrass her and defend the marijuana dispensary owner. Of course, their attack failed because it was non-factual and emotional and Mayor Kavanagh came armed with facts and logic. This isn’t the first time the Three Amigos have done this and it is becoming a regular thing with them.
Thank God that Elkie is not running again for Town Council, as he has made it public. As for Leger and Dickey, they should think twice about running again because they were almost recalled for not doing what the public elected them to do, which is to do what is right for the people of Fountain Hills.
