Glen Thomas Ford, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Karen of 32 years; daughters, Toni Drapkin (husband Andy), Kelly Owczarzak (husband Todd), Susan DeLorenzo (husband Michael), Karie Houle (husband Steve) and son, Markus Milligan.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister, Garnett, and brother, Rodger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Ruth Ford, and his brothers, Jim, Ray, Bob and Bill.
Born in a small coal-mining town in West Virginia, Glen played basketball for his high school team and participated in science projects, signaling an early interest in electronics. He worked with his father installing heating systems for local residents and completed trade school certification in electronics and engineering after high school.
In 1961 he joined IBM, rising quickly to the position of customer engineer and ultimately as an executive officer of the company. Retiring from IBM after 35 years, he served as a consultant to Sun Microsystems and a number of major technology, corporate and non-profit organizations nationwide.
A true craftsman, whether rebuilding his classic Ford model A to his 1953 Ford pickup, enjoying woodworking or tinkering with electronics, he was known by all as one to offer a helping hand. When he and his wife chose Arizona as their home in 2004, he was quick to volunteer at local community events and the first to assemble the morning Men’s Club.
He was active in the annual Fountain Hills Festival and instrumental in developing the Fountain Hills Today website and a number of merchant websites in the community.
Ever genuine, generous and humble, Glen could light up the room with his smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was a man big in heart and stature. His laugh was unmistakable, his strength and generosity undeniable. He was loved and respected and will be missed dearly.
Services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 14, at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 Fountain Hills Boulevard. Pastor Bill Good will officiate.
In memory of Glen, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society and the Fountain Hills Fire Works Display.
