Gloria M. Crowell died unexpectedly on Sept. 28, 2016 at her home in Edina, Minn. at the age of 85.
After retiring from a wonderful 40-year career as a kindergarten teacher, she and her husband, Howard H. Crowell, retired to Fountain Hills. They lived there for many happy years, playing golf and gardening. Gloria was very active in the Women’s Club of Fountain Hills, acting in many capacities, including as president. She also volunteered at Taliesin West.
After the death of her beloved Howard in 2007 Gloria moved to Minnesota to live near her daughter, Wendy. She lived happily at the senior living high-rise, Edina Park Plaza, and made many friends there. In particular, she will be missed by her dear friend Dori Schneider, with whom she played scrabble almost every evening.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her parents and her grandparents. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Meg Thomas) (Toby McAdams) of St. Paul, Minn.; her two grandchildren, Adam Thomas of St. Paul, and Claire Thomas of Minneapolis, and many dear friends. She will be sadly missed. Her good conversation and thoughtful kindness will always be remembered.
As was her wish, her body was cremated and will be interred in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona with her husband Howard. There will be a memorial service for Gloria on Sunday, Nov. 20 (visiting at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m.) at Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel, 5000 West 50th St. Edina, MN.
