Golden Eagle Park (second in series)

If Fountain Park is the town’s signature park facility, then Golden Eagle Park is the crown jewel. It is the “something for everyone” facility that has taken its place adjoining the high school campus.

The 25-acre park off Golden Eagle Boulevard is the first park site developed entirely by the Town of Fountain Hills following incorporation.

Construction of the park was partially funded through $1.4 million in grants from the Arizona State Parks Heritage Fund, and it was built in five phases with completion in 1998.

In 1999 the Arizona Parks and Recreation Commission recognized Golden Eagle Park with the Outstanding Facility Award for a community under 60,000 in population.

Its proximity to the high school allows the park to host numerous student activities through the year such as tailgate parties and other events.

During the summer months the town hosts a series of “Party in the Park” events for students while they are out of classes for the summer.

Golden Eagle is the home site for much of the Little League activity in the community. It also hosts adult and senior softball leagues and has facilities for drop-in sports activities including basketball, sand volleyball, horseshoes and tennis. Pickleball courts are nearby on the high school campus.

The FHHS tennis and sand volleyball teams utilize the park facilities for practices and competitions.

The park includes several picnic pavilions where large groups can gather for family or club activities and celebrations. The largest pavilion includes 13 tables and four large barbecue pits for feeding a big crowd. There are also two smaller picnic ramadas at the park.

The basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts are all lighted to allow for later activity to 11 p.m. on hot summer evenings. The four ball fields are also lighted for night play.

Children’s playgrounds at Golden Eagle are designed to be age appropriate. The two tot lots are designated for two to five years of age and five to 12. The playground for the younger kids is slated for replacement with new equipment by the end of this calendar year.

A walking path has been constructed around the perimeter of the park totaling one kilometer in length (.67 mile). This provides a great exercise activity for people and their four-legged companions.

On a site near the ball fields there is a main building that includes the restroom and control facilities for the park. This building also has a meeting room available to groups.

Reservations for specific facilities at the park may be made by obtaining a permit from the Community Services Department at Town Hall by calling 480-816-5100.
