The Fountain Hills High School golf team finished last week with two more wins under its belt and with a new ranking of second in the division.
The Falcons’ first match last week was on April 1 against Horizon Honors, Odyssey Institute and Northwest Christian. The Falcons came out on top and also had the top golfer of the match, freshman Alex Schafer, with a +2.
The second match for FHHS was the next day, April 2, against Payson, Phoenix Country Day, Gilbert Classical and Rancho Solano Prep. Despite not having the best individual golfer the Falcons still won the match overall.

The Fountain Hills golf team only had one match this week. The event was yesterday, April 9, against Payson, American Leadership Gilbert, Rancho Solano and Ben Franklin.
Heading into the tail-end of the season, head coach Jody Wilson said he is feeling pretty good about where his team stands.
“My one through three golfers are really solid at the moment, as I can usually count on what their score will be,” Wilson said. “My fours and fives are a little bit wilder but, to win, we need at least four of the guys to be on their game. For example, Will Eggert played in the fours spot during (the April 2) match and won it for us.”
Wilson says that the guys have come to understand that fact that, though golf is an individual sport, their performance impacts the team.
“They know to be successful they all have to work together,” Wilson said. “You can see it in our practices. They’re cohesive and trying to help each other out.”
Wilson believes the only thing holding back his team now is experience and age, making for a bright future as the team continues to mature.
