The Falcon golf squad only played in one match this past week, but it was certainly a solid showing, coming up just two strokes shy of taking first place at a four-team event.

In this home showdown, the Falcons hosted teams from North Pointe Prep, Phoenix Country Day School and Payson out of Eagle Mountain Golf Club on Monday, April 11.

According to head coach Willie Dudley, it was a strong showing for the Falcons as the team enjoyed a rematch against the tough squad from Payson, missing toppling their opponents by just a couple of strokes.

“Matt Ruby and Robbie Trudeau both improved scores from the following week,” Dudley added.

In the end, Payson won the day with a final team score of +41. The Falcons finished hot on their trails at +43 and well ahead of the third place team from Phoenix Country Day at +61. North Pointe was unable to field a full team and, as a result, did not post a final score for the day.

The Falcons will get to know the Gophers quite well this week, welcoming the team from Florence to Eagle Mountain Golf Club this past Monday, April 18. Along with Florence, the Falcons welcomed teams from Odyssey Institute and Ben Franklin High School.

Today, April 20, the Falcons are on the road, this time visiting the Florence squad at the Poston Butte Golf Club. Additional opponent may play during this 3 p.m. outing.

Next week will be especially packed for the Falcons, as the local team is set to play four days in a row. They’ll begin with a road match against Pusch Christian Academy on April 27, followed by a home match at We-Ko-Pa on April 28, with the two-day High Desert Invitational leading into the weekend from April 29-30.
