Playing in the final home match of the season, the Falcons welcomed teams from Phoenix Country Day, Payson, Valley Christian and Estrella Foothills to Eagle Mountain on Tuesday, May 29.
According to Coach Matt Johnson, the Falcons could not have asked for a better home send-off for their eldest players, seniors Ty Yoder, Rylie Lodes and Kace Collins.
“In nearly perfect conditions for the seniors’ last home match of their careers, we came up just a bit short of sweeping the match,” added Johnson.
“It was a strong showing by the Falcons against four top-10 teams that have all qualified for state.”
Ty Yoder and Griffin Peters led the Falcons with blisteringly low scores of 36. Kace Collins came in at 40 with Lucas Johnson adding a 42. Rylie Lodes finished up at 45.
All told, the Falcons put together a team score of 154, good enough for second place behind Phoenix Country Day and edging past Valley Christian at 156. Payson wasn’t far behind at 159 with Estrella Foothills coming in at 161.
Hillcrest
The final match of the regular season was actually a two-day tournament hosted out of Hillcrest Golf Course last Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.
“In the Falcons’ second tournament of the season, they had a good showing, finishing third overall in the two days,” Johnson said.
“Griffin Peters finished third individually and Ty Yoder finished seventh. The Falcons missed out on second by just three shots.”
Griffin Peters shot two 72s across the two-day event for a total score of 144 to lead the Falcons.
Ty Yoder had a 73 during day one, slipping back a little to a 77 for day two to end at 150.
Lucas Johnson shot an 80 and a 78 for 158 while Reece Bailey put in an 86 and an 87 for 173.
Kace Collins shot a 90 on both days for a total of 180.
All told, the Falcons scored 311 as a team day one and 314 day two for a total of 625.
