This Saturday, at the Desert Canyon Golf Course, the Fountain Hills High School Athletic Department will host a golf fundraiser to benefit the athletics program.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with check-in starting at 7 a.m. The format of play will be a four-golfer scramble.

Registration cost $100 per golfer and $400 for a team. The price includes range balls, golf cart, awards and lunch.

FHHS Athletic Director Willie Dudley is hoping that this fundraiser will start a new tradition for the athletics department.

“We are hoping this will become a very important part of our community outreach and a fundraising opportunity,” Dudley said.

The money raised at the event will help alleviate some of the finical concerns coaches need to give attention to when they could be coaching their teams instead.

“My job as the athletic director is to try and make life easier for our players and coaches,” Dudley said. “I know from experience raising financial support is a difficult part of the job. If the community supports our golf tournament, this will allow our players to focus on playing and our coaches to focus on coaching.”

FHHS chose to have the fundraiser at Desert Canyon because of the golf course’s support of Fountain Hills schools.

“Kurt Vogel, the PGA Pro at Desert Canyon Golf, has been terrific in his support of FHHS golf and athletics,” Dudley said.

There is still time to sign up for the tournament.

“It is not too late to sign up and register for Saturday’s tournament,” Dudley said. “Call by Friday at noon and we will fit you in. If you want to support FHHS and do not golf, you can always go online and make a tax credit donation. I want to let the community of Fountain Hills know we are grateful for their love, care and support of FHUSD. This community is the best.”
