Ginny Dickey’s column in last week’s paper was a piece of honest reporting on what went on at Four Peaks School during the Posse training.
I was dismayed to read the distorted letters criticizing Dickey the week before, but did not want to respond and extend the hysteria. Now I feel I must respond.

My husband and I were at that demonstration. We went to bear witness to what we felt was a bad event: using a neighborhood school with little prior notice for a sensationalized media event involving firearms.
I talked to a mother with young children and other folks who are opposed to more guns, and who don’t think that a “good guy with a gun is the best thing to deter a bad guy with a gun.”
We don’t want guns around schools where children should feel safe and not under siege. There were few or no neutral bystanders. Everyone there seemed to be on one side or the other.
Personally two women screamed at me that I was wasting the taxpayers’ money (presumably this was a reaction to the recall petition and the potential cost of a recall election). The vitriol spewed out by the phalanx of cyclists exceeded any expressions from our group, who quietly held protest signs described by Dickey in her column, while talking to one another.
As taxpayers we are entitled to express our support or disapproval. Ginny Dickey represents the sentiments of many Fountain Hills residents.
I would like to see a regular column by her and others in The Fountain Hills Times entitled “There’s Another Way To Look At That.”
Again, I feel it is important to bear witness and speak out.
