Grandkids kept us busy in Las Vegas

Diane and I took a drive over the Memorial Day weekend to Las Vegas.

We stayed a week at our timeshare, the Marriott Grand Chateau. Since we were there last, they have completed the third wing on the building as well as the new larger pool. Before, they only had a small pool on the 38th floor that has a great view of the attractions along the “Strip,” but it wasn’t much fun for swimming.

Daughter Holly, husband Bruce and their two girls, Brooke and Addy, were glad the new pool was finished. Much of the two days they visited us were spent in the pool there.

They’ve added a bar and grill at the new pool area. I couldn’t get my fill of their delicious shrimp tacos.

Our granddaughters could care less about the food. They just kept swimming back and forth across the pool. Addy at first was going about four feet between Bruce and me. By the end of the afternoon, she was swimming laps across the entire width of the pool. I was so proud of her progress.

Holly, Bruce and the kids left on Tuesday at noon for their home in Carlsbad. Holly had a photo shoot the next day in San Diego. Her photography business is doing well. She has 34 weddings booked for the remainder of the year. She is fully booked from now through August.

Before they left, we drove over to daughter Toni and her husband, Jason’s house. Holly and her family had not yet seen Camden, Toni’s newborn, who will be four months old on June 18. That’s also Holly’s birthday.

Camden was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot.

To see him, you’d never know there was anything wrong with him. His skin color is normal. He is very alert and when we took him to the mall later in the week, he was very wide-eyed, taking in all of the new sights.

You can visibly see there is something not right when you lift up his shirt. He has a plug on his tummy where a tube is connected at feeding time.

He drinks Toni’s breast milk from a bottle until he gets tired and falls asleep. He then has the feeding tube connected and he gets the rest of the milk. It is apparently working as he now weighs over 12 pounds. When I last saw him in the hospital in March, he weighed just under eight pounds.

Camden has his next procedure scheduled for tomorrow, June 5, when he goes into the hospital for a Heart-Cath. From this procedure photos are taken so the surgeon will have a better idea of the condition of Camden’s heart and what he will be dealing with during the open heart surgery.

They will find out on Monday when that surgery will be scheduled.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with them for both appointments.

June 5, the day of his procedure, is a busy day in our family for celebrating birthdays. My son, Brent, my step daughter, Tammy, and grandson Hunter, who lives with us until June 21 when he moves to New Jersey, all celebrate birthdays that day.

Speaking of June 21st, I just want to give you a reminder that you’re invited to attend the 40th anniversary party for The Times and Bashas’. The party will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bashas’. It’s also the 15th anniversary of Let’s Go, our monthly publication.

If you are a subscriber, be sure to sign up for our drawing during which we will give away ten $40 gift certificates to Bashas’ as well as gift items from other Fountain Hills businesses.
