Great things

If you’ve been on the campus of a school in Fountain Hills, you’ve no doubt noticed there are a lot of great things happening. U.S. News and World Report ranked Fountain Hills in the top 5 percent of their 2016 best high schools, the graduating class last year earned $3 million in scholarship funds to go to college and, in sports, four teams brought home state championships.

That doesn’t happen by chance. So many dedicated teachers, administrators, coaches, volunteers and parents make this happen together. This year, let’s support our schools by giving them the necessary funding to keep the tradition of excellence going.

On Nov. 7, voters will be asked to approve a Maintenance and Operations override. The override provides supplemental funding to our schools to help offset continued reductions in state funding for education. It also funds things that are not supported by state funding, such as staff salary increases, all-day kindergarten and updated textbooks and curriculum.

What will it cost taxpayers? Just an additional $3 per year per $100,000 of the assessed value of your home. If your home is valued at $300,000, your portion annually would be about $9, or the cost of a movie ticket.

What do you get for that additional $9? A top ranked school, millions in scholarships for seniors, competitive sports, quality teachers and the best possible start to school with all day kindergarten. Sounds like a bargain to me. I encourage you to Vote YES for Fountain Hills Students on November 7th. To learn more visit yesforFHstudents.com.
