The Greening of Downtown program is an extensive, collaborative, community effort to enhance the downtown corridor and Fountain Park with landscape additions.
The Town of Fountain Hills’ initial contribution was a $15,000 overall development plan to determine where these greening projects were feasible in Fountain Park. Since 2009, the program has raised over $300,000 through private donations, grants and in-kind services.
Improvements made by these donations are: Landscaping for the Fountain Hills Music Park, 165 trees planted in the Fountain Park, the Joe and Marge Brown Legacy Plaza and Commemorative Columns, seven downtown vacant lot landscape enhancements, the Sonoran Cactus Garden, performance pad landscaping and planters, disc golf sidewalk buffer landscape zones, a low-water demonstration garden, Centennial Circle landscaping and the Fountain Hills Community Garden.

Instead of the traditional “buy a tree” program, donors are encouraged to purchase a leaf to be placed on the commemorative columns located at the Joe and Marge Brown Legacy Plaza. All donations are then allocated for greening projects.
The Greening program is represented by the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association, a 501(c) 3, so all donations are tax deductible.
