After another sad incident of multiple murders by an individual, the anti-gun crowd wants to have more common sense gun control. The most common refrain for more gun control is universal background checks, but no one ever answers the question of how are they going to get the criminals to obey the law.
From what I have read, Dylann Storm Roof would have passed a back ground check. The common sense that the gun control people blithely ignore is that there is already a law against murdering people, which is not effective.
There is a law in South Carolina against carrying guns in churches, which was not effective. Guns were banned in all the places mass murders have been committed, in recent history. Gun free zones just assure the murders that nobody is going to be able to shoot back.

So how are more laws going to be effective? Mass murder is committed every week in Chicago, just not by a single individual. There are very strict gun control laws in force in Chicago. The only common sense gun control that will work is people control; put anyone who commits a violent crime in jail for a very long time.
