The annual Lower Verde River Valley Hall of Fame Dinner has been rescheduled.

The L. Alan Cruikshank River of Time Museum board announced that the 2020 event would be held almost exactly a year later than planned on March 24, 2021.

Barbara Hansen, chair of the Hall of Fame Committee and Hall of Fame Dinner, has tried unsuccessfully to outthink the novel coronavirus. Originally scheduled for last March 25, the dinner was rescheduled to May 27, and then to Sept. 23.

In a previous story, Hansen said, “This is not the year to cancel a celebration honoring outstanding individuals who have contributed so much to our communities.

“The inductees deserve to be honored, and we are doing our best to make this happen.”

With the Community Center not yet open or allowing large crowds, the committee had no choice but to reschedule the event again.

“This event will take place in 2021, and we are going to do some big time celebrating, when it does,” Hansen said.

She said there is a two-part plan to honor the inductees.

“The event absolutely will take place on March 24, 2021,” she said. “If for any reason the Community Center is not yet available on that date, we will have an outdoor gathering in Centennial Circle by the Museum/Library and the Community Center.”

She said it will be easy to honor the inductees and follow all of the guidelines for the pandemic. She noted that the committee will meet again as the new date approaches.

“If arrangements need to be made for an outdoor reception, the details will be worked out at that time,” Hansen said.

Hall of Fame 2020 inductees include Art Ammon, Kate B. Austin, Stephenie Bjorkman, Greg Harvey, Boe James, Dennis Meyers, Merita Kraya, Henry Leger, Dr. Bill Myhr, Bill Pape, Paul Perreault, Jr., Jenny Willigrod and Judi Yates.

Legacy Awards will go to the Fountain Hills Community Garden, being accepted by Rita Applegate, and the Verdes Habitat for Humanity, being accepted by Tom Mulleady.
