Harebrained

The latest harebrained projects the residents of Fountain Hills are about to be asked to pay for are a lagoon and/or swimming pool. We residents will pay for these projects, intended to bring people to town to spend money at local businesses, based on the value of our homes.

This implies that the town and its residents exist for the benefit of the business community. Let that sink in. I have never met someone who moved here to benefit the business community or to live in an amusement park. Now think about this: If all the businesses were to leave town today, the residents would shop in Scottsdale tomorrow. If all the residents leave town today, the businesses will leave town tomorrow.

This implies that the town and its residents exist for the benefit of the business community. Let that sink in. Now think about this: If all the businesses were to leave town today, the residents would shop in Scottsdale tomorrow. If all the residents leave town today, the businesses will leave town tomorrow.

In this day of Amazon.com, who really needs whom? Before pushing any more harebrained ideas intended to bring hordes of people with money to spend that will raise property taxes and diminish the residents’ enjoyment of the town with things like pools, lagoons and Chinese flea circuses, think about the wisdom of starting a shopping/dining war with the actual residents. Remember, the businesses need the residents more than the residents need the businesses.

Think Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club, out of town restaurants, etc. This kind of project, if built, should be built on private property with private money. It is this proposed waste, or even theft, of taxpayer money that is the best reason to never, ever vote for a property tax.

(Editor’s note: The community pool project is not affiliated with the Town, but instead a private group attempting to procure private funding.)
