Harold "Gene" Glasgow

Posted

Harold “Gene” Glasgow, born April 27, 1941 in Mansfield, Ark., passed from this earth on Dec. 18, 2014 with his sister Mona by his side.

Gene’s family moved to San Fernando Valley, Calif. when he was a young boy and he remained there until 1989 when he retired from Xerox Corp. Needing a change of scenery he moved to Fountain Hills.

It wasn’t long and he needed something to fill his days so he ventured into the bar business, purchasing The Alamo Saloon. He sold The Alamo a few years later and once again found himself needing something to do. He hadn’t lost his hankering for the bar business so Gene became a part-time bartender at The Silver Stein. He simply loved being around people.

His last career adventure was working for Fountain Hills LP Gas and remained there until he retired “for the last time.”

Gene loved Fountain Hills, always referring to it as “The Hills,” and if you didn’t live in Fountain Hills he jokingly referred to you as a “lowlander.” He had many, many friends and is missed by all. NASCAR Sundays just aren’t going to be the same without him cheering on his favorite drivers.

Gene is survived by his sister, Mona, and her husband, John Marsden, of California and two sons, Rick and Shane.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Jan. 17, at Bruno’s from 2-4 p.m.
