Harry Martin Grider Jr. (Handsome Harry), died peacefully at home on Jan. 21, 2017 in Fountain Hills at the age of 92.
Harry is survived by his wife, Edee, of 60 years; daughters, Lynne Manning (Bob), Carole Curcio (Jim); grandchildren, Jason, Benjamin and Kendra Curcio, Erin, Lauren and Stacey Manning; and great granddaughter, Emilia Curcio; sisters, Pat Carvellas (Perry), Nancy Polewko and brother, Bill Grider (Barbara) and several nieces and nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Betty June.
Harry was born in Chicago, Ill. on July 1, 1924, to Harry Martin Grider Sr. and Marie Grider, oldest of five children. He served in the army in WWII, attended Wright Jr College and University of Illinois. He worked for Magnuson electronics for 20 years.
Also, while in Illinois, Harry was president of the Rolling Meadow High School Booster Club for several years where his daughters attended high school.
He and his wife, Edee, moved from Rolling Meadows, Ill. to Fountain Hills in 1980 where he lived for 36-plus years. He sold real estate, was a long time member of Noon Kiwanis and also Toastmasters, and a proud member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.
Harry loved “Harry’s Hideaway,” his beloved cabin in Happy Jack, Ariz. He enjoyed many hours of tinkering around the cabin and relaxing on the wine deck.
A memorial service to honor Harry will be held at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N Fountain Hills Blvd, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268, 480-837-1763, on Friday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Valley. Harry will be missed by his family, many friends and neighbors.
