Hashknife Posse makes its annual ride through Fountain Hills

67th year for Pony Express ride from Arizona high country to Scottsdale

In a tradition that began in 1958,  the Navajo County Sheriff’s Hashknife Posse formed up its Pony Express riders to make their annual winter ride from Holbrook to Scottsdale. They rode through Fountain Hills on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The riders have made an annual stop in Fountain Hills for mail pickup and delivery for more than two decades. They did not make the stop at the Fountain Hills Post Office this year. Instead, after the traditional ride up the Avenue of the Fountains the group formed up in the parking lot east of town hall to greet visitors.

The search and rescue posse formed in the 1950s has made the 200 mile ride from the Navajo County seat of Holbrook to Scottsdale to participate in the annual Parada Del Sol and Western Days. They made the final leg from Fort McDowell to Scottsdale on Friday morning, Jan. 31.
