Hatchet job

The serial “hatchet job” on Sheriff Joe Arpaio by The Arizona Republic demonstrates their continuing editorial bias against the Maricopa County voters’ demand that the sheriff enforce the United States immigration laws for which President Obama has nothing but contempt.

Maricopa County has over 600,000 illegal migrants, which were routinely ignored until the horrendous May Day March by Central American migrants in 2003. It wasn’t the march but their demand for legal rights for illegal behavior while waving various Central American flags. That incident resulted in the Maricopa County voters demand that Sheriff Arpaio make concerted efforts to enforce the immigration laws.

The Arizona Republic has never been in step with this demand nor the continuing support for Sheriff Arpaio, which has resulted in numerous re-elections.

To my knowledge Sheriff Arpaio’s policy has never resulted in an arrest of an illegal migrant standing on a corner looking for work. They may have been directed to move because of business complaints as in Guadalupe. While the sheriff was harassed by the Mayor of Guadalupe for doing a traffic sweep, a 15-year-old girl was being raped by illegal alien; unfortunately that perpetrator wasn’t stopped in the sweep. Ask him about that.

The Republic never mention the 200 members of the Sheriff's Posse; some have specialized in underwater lake and desert searches, thousands of inmates who received GED diplomas and other programs to help them rehabilitate themselves; nor “Tent City” for true non-violent offenders. That program saves taxpayers millions every year. In Fountain Hills Sheriff Arpaio’s support help create the defibrillator campaign which has saved four lives.

Nothing is ever one- sided; mistakes were made and will be addressed; but the sheriff continues to have the support of the people in Maricopa County.
