One letter last week was directed to “all the Obama haters.” It expanded the accusation to hatred against gays, blacks, Hispanics, Muslims…
It questioned the patriotism, the Christianity, even the love of Jesus of the alleged “haters.” Reading the entire letter, I’m confident that I don’t agree with the writer’s political viewpoint. I’m just as confident that my differing views don’t stem from hatred. Why is it difficult for some people to acknowledge that disagreeing with President Obama’s actions and policies [the over-reaching “Affordable” Care Act (Obamacare), failure to enforce existing laws, expansion of government regulation, decline of American stature in the world, failure to stop nuclear weapon development in North Korea and Iran, more people on food stamps, more people giving up even looking for work] is not a result of hatred towards him?
Rather, it’s a recognition that his presidency is not working for the good of our country and the future of our children.

Unfortunately, when some people can’t win on ideas and factual, reasoned discussion, they resort to name-calling. They claim the ability to read another person’s heart and conclude that hate is the motivation behind the thoughts and actions of those on the other side of the political spectrum.
Some people also make the fallacious assertion about the Constitution’s “separation of church and state.” Anyone who has actually read the Constitution knows that phrase and concept is not found in the Constitution. The phrase derives from Thomas Jefferson’s letter to a Baptist congregation in Connecticut, assuring them that the federal government would not interfere with their practice of their religion.
On a positive note, it’s wonderful that one person is free to accuse others of “hate” and another is free to respond to the accusation. That’s still part of the miracle that is America.
