Help wanted at Town Hall

The retirement last month of Town Manager Ken Buchanan has resulted in a bit of a domino effect with three other long-time town employees taking their retirement within a similar time frame, leaving at least four jobs to be filled at Town Hall.

Shaunna Williams, who had served as executive assistant to the town manager and the Town Council for well over a decade, took her leave at the same time as Buchanan.

Town Manager Grady Miller said they are in the process of hiring a replacement for Williams.

Ken Kurth had been with the Street Department and took his retirement as street superintendent earlier this summer.

Justin Weldy, formerly the town’s engineering inspector, was named to replace Kurth as street superintendent.

Weldy is currently doing double duty, but Miller said they will fill his job as engineering inspector.

Janice Baxter, who has been with the town for two decades, is retiring from her job as executive assistant in the Development Services Department.

Development Services Director Paul Mood has said that Baxter’s replacement will be Paula Woodward who starts work July 20.

Mood said Woodward will be working with Baxter for a couple of weeks until she begins retirement.

Woodward is a former customer service representative at Town Hall and is currently the administrative assistant at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office District 7 substation in Town Hall.

Miller said they will also be filling the post he vacated when named as town manager. The town will go through the process to fill the job of administrative services director.
