Henry E. Sherrill

Posted

Henry Ellis Sherrill, a resident of Fountain Hills from 1973 to 2011, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 19, 2015.

He was born in the hills of Tennessee April 13, 1921, finally settling in Southfield, Mich. to raise a family. He was very active at Southfield Community Church and regularly attended Scottsdale Bible Church for over 23 years.

Henry was an active duty U.S. Air Force pilot during WW II. After joining the AF Reserves, Lt. Colonel Sherrill was activated for tours of duty for Korea and Vietnam.

Henry worked as a lather and home builder in Michigan before moving to Arizona. He and wife Helen bought and managed an apartment building before Henry worked as a City of Phoenix building inspector.

Henry built their home on Monterey Drive in Fountain Hills in 1973. After Helen retired from Valley National Bank, she and Henry travelled extensively throughout the U.S. in their motor home, often spending summers in Colorado.

Cruises, road trips in Europe, and a few group tours exposed them to many parts of the world. Along with square dancing, camp-outs and going to the gym, he loved to play cards. Henry had a playful sense of humor, a warm heart and a great smile.

Henry is survived by son, Rick Sherrill of Fountain Hills; daughter, Diana Thornton; grandsons, Mike and Marc; and two great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by family and friends yet he is now resting in peace with God.
