High ground

The following is an email I sent to Council Members Alan Magazine, Henry Leger, Nick DePorter, with copies to the Mayor and remaining Council Members:

Just a note to let you know how grateful I am to all of you for taking the high ground at this week’s council meeting. I have been around for previous contentious meetings but never before have I been witness to a public flogging. It was extremely uncomfortable to watch so I appreciate that you all remained professional throughout the meeting.

I do not need to be privy to the reasons the town attorney was fired but apparently some council members believed mud-slinging would clarify their position. In the end all it did was show the public that ethical conduct does not apply to the council. Watching the distress that Andrew was showing on his face made me sick to my stomach. Regardless of the issues, the approach was shameful.

If that exercise wasn't enough we had to watch the mayor engage in an ugly barrage against a speaker at the podium.

At a time when we are trying to attract families and businesses Tuesday's meeting would surely throw doubt into anyone’s mind considering to do so. There are not enough words!

Again, thank you for serving the Town of Fountain Hills with integrity and with the best interests of its residents.
