The Town of Fountain Hills has partnered with the Sonoran Conservancy of Fountain Hills for the annual Hiking Challenge, which goes from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30.
There are two ways to complete the challenge: trek through six designated trails or hike a total of 35 miles.
Those interested are invited to an opening event from 8 to 11 a.m at Fountain Park’s Kiwanis Ramada on Saturday, Nov. 1, according to a press release.
The gathering will allow participants to mingle, learn about hikes and connect with the Sonoran Conservancy of Fountain Hills and those from the Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden. Complimentary cookies and coffee will also be available.
The SCFH will guide an easy-paced hike around Fountain Lake and up the scenic Lake Overlook Trail, beginning at 9 a.m. to kickoff the challenge.
Once the hiking challenge is completed, participants are encouraged to share their experience on social media and tag Fountain Hills Parks and Recreation on Instagram (@FountainHillsRec) and/or Facebook (@fhparksandrec) for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
The SCFH recommends packing extra water, proper hiking shoes, sun protection and hiking poles while hiking.
