The town council has received a proposal for construction of a more than 100 unit nursing home at Saguaro and Trevino, the entrance to Fountain Hills.
Presently, the 5.25 acres is filled with saguaro cacti and other desert vegetation on a towering hill. The construction of the 500-foot (more than 1-2/3 football fields) facility would necessitate the destruction of the saguaro cactus and the removal of many truckloads of the hill’s dirt, i.e. destroying the hill. In its place would be another nursing home.

Another nursing home could very well result in a situation similar to the Target and Fry’s shopping center, i.e. economically unviable facilities and eyesores.
This entrance to the town has a vista which makes Fountain Hills special and worthy of the preservation and viewing for visitors and residents.
The town has hillside protection standards that should be adhered to. The hill at the entrance to Fountain Hills should not be destroyed without a comprehensive evaluation and written justification by the zoning commission and an opportunity for us, the residents of Fountain Hills, to voice our opinion on the destruction of our hills and landscape.
