Holocaust survivor to present April 25 in Fountain Hills

Dirk van Leenen shares stories of his childhood

It’s difficult to imagine a man who decided to spend his life in nature with degrees in horticulture and floral design share stories about hiding Jews in his childhood home, smuggling food rations on a bicycle and bawling on cue to protect his father.

At 84, award-winning author and Holocaust survivor Dirk van Leenen is an active speaker and writer, penning five books since his time surviving the Holocaust in the Netherlands at a young age.

Van Leenen will speak at the Fountain Hills Community Center Thursday, April 25, at 2 p.m.
