A hilltop house fire sent a plume of smoke visible for miles over Fountain Hills on Sunday afternoon, July 5.
Fountain Hills Rural/Metro Fire Chief Randy Roberts said crews responded to the report of the fire on Fontana Way around 5:40 p.m. He said one occupant of the home had safely evacuated when firefighter arrived.
All Fountain Hills units, plus mutual aid from Fort McDowell Fire Department responded and were able to knock down the fire within about 15 minutes, according to Roberts.
“The house had fire sprinklers, but the fire was spreading through the attic where sprinklers are seldom installed,” Roberts said.
He added that the cause was not immediately determined, but the blaze apparently started in an exterior wall and spread up the wall and into the attic.
There was estimated $125,000 damage to the $400,000 house.
The Fountain Hills Crisis Assist Response unit responded and helped the resident find a place to stay.
