Infrastructure

It takes money to run and maintain a town. Where the federal government is concerned, they take far too much of our money to do what we need done. The misappropriation, fraud and utterly stupid “programs” for which our tax dollars are levied are almost beyond counting. Not so, however, with our town…yet. Let’s not create that opportunity.

It’s silly to borrow money to pay for the maintenance of our streets and other infrastructure. We need a tax to provide the necessary funding for that maintenance. That said, it’s up to the town to make sure that the money raised is not diverted to other purposes.

The document which creates the tax should therefore include language which expressly prohibits the use of the funds for any purposes other than those expressly defined purposes enumerated there. A completely separate fund should be set aside for all that money. There should be no generalities or ambiguities in the language.

The town government needs to govern for the people who live here today. We, the town’s citizens, bought here because we liked it as it was. We feel no need for more population nor do we see a need for our government to be involved in “creating business opportunities.” That is for the private sector. If a business locates here, it should first do its due diligence and determine if the existing composition is conducive to its success. But it should not just locate here and then demand that the town help them, or the Chamber of Commerce demand it in their stead.

I favor the tax, provided it is used for infrastructure only. I also want proper priorities from the town. The present citizens are that priority.
