Insults

On last week’s Opinion page, one writer proceeded to level multiple accusations and insults against President Trump. This was characteristic of what has become the daily content on media outlets like MSNBC, CNN and The New York Times.

You’ve heard some of these epithets: liar, racist, xenophobe, traitor, misogynist and one with a “borderline personality disorder.” Now that last one is interesting, since it a specific psychiatric diagnosis which can only be made after a thorough evaluation, in person.

Of course, others have given the president a diagnosis of dementia, another specific medical condition which requires a thorough personal evaluation by a trained professional. Disagreeing with the president, or any politician, is one thing; but calling names and casting insults without a rational basis is not right and is becoming an old and tired tactic.

As for the president’s actions and behavior and being the basis for the writer’s quitting the party, let’s review that topic. Exactly what “constitutional duty” requires the Congress (as the writer claims) to provide “checks on his behavior?” That’s not included in Article I.

Since his inauguration, President Trump has worked to lower taxes, reduce regulations, increase border security and enforcement, promote free market economics, support energy independence, promote pro-life beliefs, encourage repatriation of overseas assets, stand up to North Korea and support America to the entire world. These are all part of or totally consistent with the Republican Party platform.

Could some Republicans be better at vigorously promoting and implementing Republican principles? Sure. But President Trump, in one year, has done more to accomplish this than many others and should be recognized for his efforts and that progress.

Enough already with the name-calling, please!
