Intersection

I agree with all those that sent in complaints and/or improvement suggestions of the dangerous Shea/Palisades intersection.

The south lanes on Palisades join Shea with four lanes of designated uses.

Starting with the west Palisades lane (called No. 1), lanes 1 and 2 are designated as right turns on to Shea. That is correct usage.

Starting with the west Palisades lane (called No. 1), lanes 1 and 2 are designated as right turns on to Shea. That is correct usage.

The problems exist with lanes 3 and 4.

Lane 3 currently is designated as straight ahead across Shea, into a private entrance of the FireRock development! How many cars traveling south on Palisades do you think are going into that rear entrance? Yet it has an entire lane for it!

Lane 4 is designated as a left (east) turn onto Shea. In addition lane 4 also has an arrow pointing to straight ahead to the private entrance!

The needed changes are very simple. Turn the lens on lane 3 to make it both straight ahead and left turn! A better change would be to switch the overhead fixtures on lanes 3 and 4. Just stand at the intersection and you will see the necessary changes.

Another part of the problem is that the signs telling the drivers what to do are much too small and can hardly be read even if you are first in line. They should also read “No turn on red.” And the signs must be way bigger!

You must ignore the state direction which says to put on the signs turn on green only.

All the above reasons and the red light runners have and are going to continue with avoidable accidents.

If you want to make money for the town and cut down on the red light runners, put a Sheriff’s car there and prepare to write a lot of tickets.
