Let calmer heads prevail. Now.

This is a letter I sent to The Times 10 years ago, which was published in June of 2004:

“Mr. Bush, take note: In our efforts to spread democracy in Iraq, we have surpassed in barbarity the barbarians we came to civilize.

“We have not succeeded in selling the virtues of democracy – only acquiring their vices.

“Why don’t we just leave them alone to kill each other?”

After devastating the country of Iraq we left in 2011. We lost over 4,000 young Americans and thousands of others wounded and disabled at a cost of billions of tax dollars and accomplished absolutely nothing.

Now subversive elements are over-running this country and some of our war mongers in Washington want to go back again.

Please let them settle their own problems.

I honestly believe if Saddam Hussein could be resurrected he would be welcomed by all Iraqi people as he knew how to rule these people, and keep out the subversive elements, without our help.
