For the second year in a row, the Athleta Iron Girl 5K/10-mile Run and Walk event will be hosted out of Fountain Hills this Sunday, Dec. 15.

The event will take place at Fountain Park starting at 8 a.m.

A woman’s only event series, Iron Girl races take place all over the country throughout the year and aim to empower women to live healthier lifestyles while supporting one another to achieve their personal goals.

Everyone is invited out to Fountain Park to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities.

For motorists, be aware of the various traffic closures and restrictions throughout the Sunday morning event, including single lane closures on Saguaro Blvd. going north.

At Fountain Hills Blvd. and Palisades Blvd., delays will be from 8:10 to 8:30 a.m. while runner cross heading west on Palisades Blvd. There will be metered left turn traffic onto Palisades (eastbound) from Fountain Hills Blvd. from 8:20 to 8:50 a.m.

Saguaro Blvd will see a full closure, northbound and southbound, in front of Fountain Park from Paul Nordin to Avenue of the Fountains from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Avenue of the Fountains will also see a full closure in the eastbound land from La Montana Dr. to Saguaro Blvd. from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

There will be metered traffic on Fountain Hills Blvd. at Kingstree Blvd. from 8:45 to 10 a.m.

Finally, there will be metered traffic at Saguaro Blvd. and El Lago Blvd. as runners pass through the intersection heading north from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
