We cordially invite the Fountain Hills community to participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which is coming to the Phoenix Convention Center from May 12-17, 2013.

This is the world’s largest and most prestigious pre-college exhibition, with over 1,500 high school students from more than 70 countries competing in 17 categories for over $4 million in awards.

This fair showcases many of the brightest students and provides a unique opportunity for their work to be judged by professional scientists and engineers.

Hundreds of innovative student projects will be on display, and many will lead to exciting new technologies, such as last year’s award-winning project involving the development of a novel device for the early detection of pancreatic cancer by 15-year-old Jack Andraka. The schedule of activities includes a high-tech opening ceremony on May 13, a Noble Laureate panel discussion on May 14, judging in the late afternoon on May 14 and all day on May 15, a public day on May 16, and awards ceremonies on May 16 and 17.

More than 1,000 qualified judges are required to adequately evaluate and interview the students, and we still need over 300 more judges for judging days on May 14 and 15. We also need hundreds of interpreters and general volunteers.

To obtain more information and to register, please go to www.societyforscience.org/intelisef2013.

This event is not only important for the students, but also for advancing our state’s pre-college education system, attracting outstanding students to our universities, and helping meet the future need for talented scientists and engineers.

This is the one fair you don’t want to miss: fun, interesting, inspiring and just a great way to spend the day!
